Providence Island could soon get a major facelift as the Liberian government moves forward with plans to turn the historic site into a better tourism destination. Government officials and contractors have inspected the island, with plans including renovating historic structures, improving facilities and adding a stage for events. The Liberia National Tourism Authority says the development will also protect the island’s historical artifacts and cultural heritage while making the site more attractive to visitors.
