The Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) has uncovered more than 500 allegedly fraudulent West African Examinations Council (WAEC) certificates and other documents during the ongoing vetting process for applicants seeking to join the Liberian military.
The discovery was announced as the AFL continues its 2026 recruitment exercise, which officially entered the vetting stage on July 5, 2026, across Liberia.
According to the AFL, the vetting exercise is expected to continue through August 15, 2026, as recruitment teams verify the credentials and other information submitted by applicants.
The military said qualified applicants should remain patient throughout the process, noting that vetting teams will contact applicants and their listed references as part of the verification process.
However, the discovery of more than 500 fake WAEC certificates and other fraudulent documents has raised concerns about attempts by some applicants to enter the Armed Forces of Liberia using falsified academic credentials.
The AFL stated that applicants found to have submitted fraudulent documents will be automatically disqualified from the recruitment process without notification.
The military did not disclose the identities of the applicants involved or provide details on the specific documents found to be fraudulent beyond the WAEC certificates and other documents.
The AFL has urged applicants who submitted legitimate credentials to remain patient while the verification process continues.
The 2026 recruitment vetting exercise is scheduled to run until August 15, with the AFL expected to provide further updates as the process progresses.
The Armed Forces of Liberia reiterated its commitment to maintaining integrity in the recruitment process under its motto: “A Force for Good.”
