MONROVIA – The House of Representatives has officially established the Youth Legislative Caucus, a bipartisan platform designed to strengthen engagement between lawmakers and young people while advancing policies that address issues affecting Liberia’s youth.
The caucus was formally endorsed on Thursday following months of consultations involving the House of Representatives, the Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY), and development partners, including the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD).
The new body is expected to serve as a permanent forum for dialogue between legislators and youth organizations nationwide, ensuring that young Liberians have a more structured voice in the legislative process.
Federation of Liberian Youth President Ernest Duku Jallah described the creation of the caucus as a major milestone, saying it will give young people a stronger and more organized platform to influence national policies. He noted that the caucus will focus on key areas such as employment, education, entrepreneurship, governance, and institutional reforms.
Chair of the House Committee on Youth and Sports, Hon. Steve Tequah, said the initiative creates a formal mechanism for increasing youth involvement in governance and national decision-making.
Meanwhile, Hon. Frank Saah Foko, who will lead the newly established caucus, said the body is intended to strengthen ties between the Legislature and youth across the country. He called on members from both sides of the political aisle to work together in promoting policies that benefit Liberia’s younger generation.
