MONROVIA, Liberia — Former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor has extended assistance toward the release of two pregnant women who were detained at the Monrovia Central Prison.
The women, identified as Kebbeh Pewee and Annie Kollie, were reportedly being held on separate criminal charges. Pewee was facing an aggravated assault charge, while Kollie was facing a manslaughter charge.
According to a statement from the former Vice President’s office, Howard-Taylor encountered the two women while she was also being detained at the prison in connection with an ongoing drug investigation.
The statement said she was moved by the circumstances of the two pregnant women and subsequently offered assistance toward securing their release.
Court documents reportedly show that release orders for Pewee and Kollie were issued on August 28, 2026.
Photos released in connection with the development show the two women alongside Sandra Howard, the eldest sister of Jewel Howard-Taylor, as well as copies of the court-issued release orders.
The assistance comes while Howard-Taylor herself remains detained at the Monrovia Central Prison, where she is reportedly being held amid the ongoing investigation.
The development has drawn attention to the former Vice President’s intervention on behalf of the two women, with supporters describing it as an act of compassion toward pregnant detainees.
