MONROVIA, Liberia — Justin Oldpa Yeazehn, popularly known as “Prophet Key,” is expected to regain his freedom this month after serving a six-month prison sentence imposed by the Supreme Court of Liberia for criminal contempt.
As the end of his sentence approaches, a handwritten letter dated July 28, 2026 has surfaced in which Prophet Key expresses remorse for the statements that resulted in his imprisonment and offers an apology to the Supreme Court, the Liberian people and, particularly, Liberian women.
In the letter, Prophet Key apologized to Chief Justice Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay and Associate Justices Yussif D. Kaba, Boakai N. Kanneh, Jamesetta H. Wolokolie, and Cecelia D. Clinton Johnson, along with judges, magistrates and other judicial officers.
He acknowledged that his previous remarks were inappropriate and asked the judiciary for forgiveness, saying he deeply regrets his actions.
Prophet Key also extended his apology to Liberian women, admitting that his public comments had insulted and offended them. He asked for another chance and pledged not to repeat such conduct.
“I promise that I will never cuss any woman again,” he wrote, explaining that his experience as a husband and father of two daughters had reinforced his understanding of the need to treat women with dignity and respect.
He ended the letter by expressing what he described as sincere regret and asking the Liberian public to forgive him.
Prophet Key’s apology comes months after the Supreme Court found him guilty of criminal contempt following repeated abusive and vulgar remarks directed at Chief Justice Gbeisay, members of the Supreme Court and other individuals.
The Court subsequently sentenced him to six months at the Monrovia Central Prison, finding that his conduct undermined the dignity and authority of the judiciary.
During the contempt proceedings, Prophet Key, through his legal team, also acknowledged wrongdoing and appealed to the Court for mercy. He assured the justices that he would refrain from making similar statements in the future.
With his six-month sentence approaching completion, Prophet Key is expected to be released sometime in August 2026, unless there are further legal developments affecting the execution of the Court’s judgment.
