MONROVIA — The Government of Liberia, through the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) and other national security institutions, has announced the seizure of a large quantity of suspected narcotics discovered in Duazon, Margibi County.

The disclosure was made by Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah during the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing in Monrovia, where he described the operation as one of the largest drug seizures recorded in Liberia in recent years.

According to Minister Piah, preliminary assessments suggest that the seized substance may be cocaine. However, authorities are conducting further laboratory tests to confirm the identity of the substance, determine the exact quantity, and establish its estimated street value.

During the briefing, officials displayed several packages containing the suspected narcotics. Some of the packages reportedly carried markings including “COCO,” “PP,” “MP,” and “CC.”

Two Foreign Nationals Arrested

Authorities have arrested two individuals in connection with the seizure, a Colombian national and a Spanish citizen, as investigations continue into the suspected trafficking operation.

Security agencies are also working to identify other individuals who may be connected to the shipment and determine the full network behind the alleged illegal activity.

Minister Piah commended the LDEA and other security institutions involved in the operation, describing the seizure as a major step in efforts to disrupt drug trafficking activities in Liberia.

Government Reaffirms Anti-Drug Efforts

The government said the latest operation reflects its continued commitment to combating illicit drug trafficking and preventing Liberia from becoming a route for international narcotics networks.

Members of the media are expected to visit the discovery site in Douazohn to observe the seized substances and ongoing security operations.

Authorities have said investigations remain active, with additional information expected as testing continues and security agencies work to bring all individuals linked to the suspected trafficking operation before the law.
