Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has, with immediate effect, relieved Ambassador Sheikh Al-Moustapha Kouyateh of his duties as Ambassador-at-Large for Special Duties and Special Presidential Envoy.
The decision, announced from the Executive Mansion on June 8, 2026, follows what the Presidency described as “recent events arising from public statements attributed to him” concerning the Honorable House of Representatives, as well as formal communications from the Legislature indicating a Vote of No Confidence in his continued service.
According to the President’s communication, the developments created circumstances that required immediate executive attention and action, leading to the termination of his appointment.
President Boakai stressed the importance of maintaining harmony and institutional respect across the three coordinate branches of Government, noting that effective governance depends on constructive engagement and mutual respect among national institutions.
He further emphasized that the successful implementation of the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development relies on strong cooperation and coordinated efforts among all arms of government in pursuit of the national interest.
While acknowledging Ambassador Kouyateh’s service to the country, the Liberian leader extended appreciation for his contributions and wished him success in his future endeavors.
The decision marks a notable development in ongoing tensions between elements of the Executive and Legislature, underscoring the sensitivities surrounding public commentary by government officials on inter-branch relations.
