Monrovia, LiberiaThe Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has announced a scheduled power outage as part of a major maintenance exercise at the Mount Coffee Substation, aimed at strengthening the country’s electricity network ahead of the 2026 rainy season and anticipated peak demand period.

According to the Corporation, the planned intervention will involve critical annual maintenance and hotspot repairs at the facility, one of the most important components of Liberia’s power infrastructure. The exercise is expected to improve system reliability and ensure more stable electricity distribution across the network.

The maintenance is scheduled for Sunday, April 26, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, during which time the Mount Coffee Substation will undergo a complete shutdown. LEC confirmed that the outage will impact both imported electricity supply and power generated from Mount Coffee, resulting in temporary service interruptions in several parts of the country.

LEC emphasized that its technical teams are fully prepared to carry out the operation with efficiency and precision, with the goal of restoring electricity within the stipulated timeframe.

In the meantime, the Corporation is urging customers and stakeholders to take precautionary measures ahead of the outage. Residents are advised to plan their activities accordingly, switch off sensitive electrical appliances to prevent damage, and follow official LEC communication channels for real-time updates and restoration notices.

While acknowledging the inconvenience the temporary outage may cause, LEC stressed that the maintenance is necessary to enhance the resilience and reliability of Liberia’s power supply system, particularly as the country approaches a period typically marked by increased operational challenges.

The Corporation has expressed appreciation for the public’s patience and cooperation as it works to improve electricity service delivery nationwide.
