The Liberian Senate Plenary has endorsed an Ad-hoc committee report recommending a full revision of the controversial Medtech deal operating at the Freeport of Monrovia. The endorsement followed a motion put forth by Grand Kru County Senator Albert Chie.
The Ad-hoc committee’s findings revealed that the over US$10-million agreement bypassed standard procurement procedures, raising concerns about transparency and adherence to the law. The report highlighted the need for a comprehensive review to ensure that the deal aligns with proper procurement guidelines.
The Senate’s decision is expected to prompt further investigations into the Medtech deal, which has been a point of contention due to its non-compliance with procurement regulations. The revision process will focus on safeguarding public interest and ensuring accountability in government contracts.
