MONROVIA, Liberia — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has made major changes at the Ministry of Justice, appointing Cllr. Betty M. Lamin-Blamo as Minister of Justice and Cllr. Abrahim Boimah Sillah, Sr. as Solicitor General.
The appointments mean Cllr. Oswald N. Tweh, who has been serving as Minister of Justice, is leaving the position and will be reassigned to another level of government.
The Executive Mansion announced the changes Wednesday as part of a broader set of government appointments affecting the Ministries of Justice; Gender, Children and Social Protection; and Local Government, as well as the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC) and the National Transit Authority (NTA).
At the Ministry of Justice, Lamin-Blamo has been appointed to succeed Tweh, while Sillah has been named the new Solicitor General, replacing Augustine Fayiah.
The Executive Mansion said both outgoing Justice Minister Oswald N. Tweh and Solicitor General Augustine Fayiah will be reassigned to other levels of government. However, the announcement did not provide details about their new assignments.
Lamin-Blamo will now lead the Ministry of Justice, one of the government’s key institutions responsible for legal affairs and the administration of justice.
As Solicitor General, Sillah will serve as a senior legal representative of the government and work with the Ministry of Justice on matters involving the government’s legal interests.
The changes at the Justice Ministry come as President Boakai continues efforts to strengthen key government institutions and improve the delivery of public services.
Beyond the Ministry of Justice, President Boakai appointed Ms. Angel M. Morris as Deputy Minister for Public Affairs at the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, while Mr. Harrison K. Sorsor was appointed Assistant Minister for Research, Policy and Planning.
Mr. Alex Chersia Grant has also been appointed Commissioner of the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission.
At the Ministry of Local Government, Mr. Christopher Ben Bailey has been appointed Superintendent of Grand Gedeh County.
Meanwhile, Mr. Benedict Yeke Harleysion, Sr. has been reappointed Chairman of the Board of the National Transit Authority.
The Executive Mansion said the appointments are intended to strengthen key government institutions and enhance the effective delivery of public services.
Where applicable, the newly appointed officials will be subject to confirmation by the Liberian Senate.
