MONROVIA — George “Leroy” Harris, owner of the popular Private Bar Entertainment Center, has been arrested and formally charged in connection with Liberia’s US$317 million drug case, according to Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah.
Harris is facing multiple criminal charges stemming from an ongoing investigation into an alleged drug trafficking network, authorities said.
According to Minister Piah, the charges include illegal possession, importation, trafficking, distribution and sale of illicit drugs. Harris is also accused of money laundering, economic sabotage, criminal conspiracy, criminal facilitation and criminal solicitation.
The charges place the Private Bar owner among individuals being investigated in connection with a case that has become one of Liberia’s most closely watched drug-related prosecutions.
Authorities have not, in the information provided, disclosed specific evidence against Harris or detailed the alleged role he is accused of playing in the broader network.
The case comes as Liberian authorities continue efforts to disrupt drug trafficking and organized criminal activity in the country.
