The Ministry of Youth & Sports (MYS) has announced the appointment of seasoned Liberian sports professional T. Kla Wesley Jr. as the new Director of Talent Development & Decentralization within the Department of Sports.
The appointment was announced in a press release issued by the Ministry on Tuesday, highlighting Wesley’s more than 15 years of experience in grassroots football development, sports journalism, media management, and sports administration.
According to the Ministry, Wesley began his sports career as Team Manager of Swankamore Football Club, where he gained experience in talent identification, player development, and community-based sports initiatives before transitioning into sports journalism.
Over the years, he has established himself as one of Liberia’s leading sports journalists, earning several awards for excellence in sports reporting and photography. His professional achievements also earned him appointment as a Confederation of African Football (CAF) Media Officer, serving at major continental competitions.
As Director of Talent Development & Decentralization, Wesley will lead efforts to strengthen sports development across Liberia’s 15 counties. His responsibilities include overseeing county-level sports programs, supervising the Talent Identification and Scouting Unit, coordinating with county sports officers, schools, and community organizations, developing policies to advance decentralized sports governance, and helping integrate talented athletes into regional academies and national teams. He will also monitor and evaluate grassroots sports programs to ensure measurable results and increased participation.
Welcoming the appointment, Minister of Youth & Sports Atty. Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah said the Ministry remains committed to building an inclusive and sustainable sports development system nationwide.
“The future of Liberian sports depends on our ability to identify, develop and support talent in every county. The appointment of T. Kla Wesley Jr. reinforces our commitment to creating a national system that gives every young athlete an equal opportunity to succeed while strengthening the foundation of sports across the country,” the Minister said.
In his new role, Wesley is expected to focus on expanding grassroots sports structures, improving talent identification and athlete development, and promoting equal sporting opportunities across all fifteen counties.
The Ministry expressed confidence that his combination of grassroots experience, media expertise, and continental sports administration will play a key role in advancing sports development throughout Liberia.
