Liberian Afropop artist Kobazzie has spent nearly a decade building a name through hit singles, collaborations, awards and major performances. But despite all those accomplishments, there is one major thing missing from his career catalog: an officially released solo project.

Kobazzie first began making serious noise in Liberia around 2016, when he became associated with Bilikon Entertainment, the label led by Lyee Bility. The label helped introduce him to a wider audience, with “Sleep for What” becoming one of the records that helped push his name into the spotlight.

He later appeared on Bilikon Entertainment’s 2017 compilation project Press Play, contributing to songs including “Sleep for What,” “Drinks on Me,” “Minaj” and “Ma You Gifted.” While the compilation is part of his career history, it was a label project and not a Kobazzie solo EP or album.

Kobazzie eventually left Bilikon Entertainment in 2017, telling the Daily Observer that the deal was not profitable for him. Shortly after his departure, he released “Shut Up,” a song he had recorded before leaving the label.

A Catalog Built on Singles

After leaving Bilikon, Kobazzie continued releasing music independently and steadily expanded his catalog.

His records include “Check Mark,” “Abelaibah,” “Shut Up,” “Bounce,” “Bounce (Remix)” featuring Davido, “Lib Jue” featuring Stunna, “Pro Poor Life,” “My Heart,” “Everyday” featuring Stonebwoy, “Go Low,” “Call God,” “Wetin U Wan Do,” “My Friend?” “Party” featuring Bucky Raw and “Am Back,” among other singles and collaborations.

His 2018 single “Bounce” became one of the biggest records of his career. The song was later followed by a remix featuring Nigerian superstar Davido, released in 2019. Apple Music currently lists “Am Back,” released August 4, 2025, as his latest release.

Kobazzie has also worked with major African artists. His “Everyday” collaboration with Ghanaian dancehall star Stonebwoy was released in 2021, while the Davido-assisted “Bounce” remix gave him another high-profile international collaboration.

An Award-Winning Career

What makes the absence of a project even more interesting is that Kobazzie has not simply been releasing music without recognition. He has won major Liberian music awards.

In 2016, Kobazzie won New Artist of the Year at the Liberia Music Awards, one of his earliest major career achievements.

His breakthrough continued with “Bounce.” The song was nominated for Song of the Year at the 2018 Liberia Music Awards, while Kobazzie himself received nominations for Artist of the Year and Male Artist of the Year.

At the 2019 TunesLiberia Music Awards, Kobazzie won Afropop Artist of the Year. He was also nominated for Artist of the Year and “Bounce” was nominated for Song of the Year.

That same year, “Bounce” won Song of the Year at the Liberian Entertainment Awards, giving Kobazzie another major award for the record.

His award recognition continued in subsequent years. At the 2020 Liberian Entertainment Awards, “Bounce” featuring Davido was nominated for Best Music Video, while “Pro Poor Life” was also nominated. The “Bounce” remix video was also nominated for Best Video of the Year at the 2020 TunesLiberia Music Awards.

In 2022, Kobazzie’s “Party” featuring Bucky Raw was nominated for Collaboration of the Year at the MTN Liberia Music Awards.

His “Go Low” video was also nominated for Video of the Year at the 2023 MTN Liberia Music Awards, while Kobazzie was nominated for Afropop Artist of the Year at the same ceremony.

Beyond awards, Kobazzie has also performed on international platforms. In 2017, he performed at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards and appeared on BBC African Voices and VOA African Beat.

The Project That Never Came

Interestingly, Kobazzie once planned to release a project. In 2018, he revealed that he was working on a six-track debut EP. He said previously released songs including “Check Mark” and “Abelaibah” were expected to be included.

But the EP never officially arrived.

That means that despite years of singles, collaborations, awards, international appearances and a catalog that includes records with artists such as Davido, Stonebwoy, Bucky Raw and Stunna, Kobazzie has never officially released a solo EP, studio album or mixtape.

Why a Project Matters

In all honesty, a single can introduce an artist to the public, create a hit and keep their name active. A project does something different.

An EP, album or mixtape allows an artist to bring several songs together and show a bigger picture of who they are musically. It can demonstrate their range, storytelling, sound and artistic direction in a way that individual singles often cannot.

A project also gives an artist a body of work that can define a particular period of their career. Years later, fans can point to an album or EP and say, “This was Kobazzie’s era.”

For an artist with a catalog as long as Kobazzie’s, a project could also bring together the different sides of his career, from the Bilikon Entertainment days and “Sleep for What” to “Bounce,” the Davido remix, his Stonebwoy collaboration and his more recent releases. Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t mean an artist cannot have a successful career without an album or EP. Kobazzie’s awards and hit records already prove that.

But having a body of work gives fans something different: a complete musical statement rather than a collection of individual moments.

Nearly a Decade In, Still No Project

The Bilikon Entertainment compilation Press Play is part of Kobazzie’s recorded history, but it does not count as his solo project because it was a label compilation.

His planned six-track EP was never released either.

So, after all the years in the Liberian music industry, Kobazzie has built his career almost entirely through singles and collaborations.

He has the hits. He has the awards. He has the collaborations and He has the catalog.

What he doesn’t have yet is a PROJECT of his own.

And that leaves one question for Kobazzie’s fans: when will the first official Kobazzie EP or album finally arrive?

Share.
