Monrovia, Liberia – The Ministry of Education (MoE) has announced the strict enforcement of approved graduation fees and regulations for all public and private schools across Liberia for the 2025/2026 academic year, warning that institutions found in violation will face administrative action.
According to a public notice issued on June 15, 2026, the Ministry emphasized that all graduation-related charges must strictly follow the fee structure outlined in the official academic calendar, with no school permitted to impose additional or unauthorized costs on parents and guardians.
Under the approved schedule, graduation fees are set as follows: Public Grade 12 students will pay LRD 5,000, while Private Grade 12 students will pay USD 100 or its equivalent in Liberian dollars. For terminal classes in lower levels, Public Grades 6 and 9 are fixed at LRD 3,500 each, while Private Grades 6 and 9 are set at LRD 6,000 each. Kindergarten (K2) fees have also been standardized at LRD 2,500 for public schools and LRD 5,000 for private institutions.
The Ministry further stressed that schools are not authorized to impose, demand, or collect any graduation-related fees beyond the approved amounts.
It also clarified that graduation fees must only be collected after the official release of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results. Any attempt to request payment before the announcement of results is strictly prohibited.
Additionally, graduation ceremonies for Grades 6 and 9 will only be permitted where those classes represent the terminal level of the institution.
On graduation attire, the Ministry stated that the official dress code shall remain the respective school uniform. However, institutions that already possess graduation gowns may allow their use, provided no extra charges are imposed for gowns, rentals, or related attire.
The Ministry is urging parents and guardians to report any school that demands unauthorized fees or violates the established regulations. It assured that all complaints will be investigated and appropriate action taken against offending schools.
The Ministry of Education reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring fairness, transparency, and the reduction of financial burdens on parents while maintaining order in school graduation processes nationwide.
