Monrovia, Liberia — Authorities have dismissed reports of an alleged kidnapping involving Amie T. Dean, confirming that the incident was fabricated and that she is now in police custody.
Police Spokesperson Sam Collins disclosed that ongoing investigations revealed no evidence to support Dean’s earlier claims of abduction. According to Collins, Dean has since admitted that the story was untrue.
She has been formally charged with raising a false alarm and is expected to be forwarded to court for prosecution.
The case had initially sparked widespread concern after Dean was reported missing on April 2, 2026. Prior to her disappearance, she reportedly sent a message to a friend claiming she had entered a black vehicle occupied by unidentified men while returning from the Smell No Taste community.
Following several days of uncertainty, Dean later reappeared and alleged that she had been taken to an unknown location before being released with the help of another woman.
However, police say their findings contradict her account, concluding that the entire incident was staged.
Authorities have indicated that a comprehensive statement detailing the investigation and findings will be made public in the coming hours.
