Weah Vows to Rebuild CDC Headquarters “In Record Time” After Demolition
Former Liberian President George Manneh Weah has pledged to rebuild the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) national headquarters “in record time,” following the demolition of the party’s previous structure earlier this year.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony in Congo Town on Saturday, Weah appeared to take a swipe at the ruling Unity Party (UP), asserting that the CDC is a movement that “builds, not destroys.” He emphasized that the event symbolized his party’s continued commitment to the Liberian people.
“Today’s ceremony is a testament to our resolve and commitment to serve the Liberian people, regardless of their political, religious, or social affiliations,” Weah said. “Despite the disregard for the rule of law by the Unity Party government, our people continue to stand with us. Liberia has faced many breakdowns, but we are builders, not destroyers. The bricks we lay, we lead — they follow.”
Addressing a cheering crowd of supporters, the former president underscored that the CDC’s true strength lies not in buildings but in the dedication and unity of its members.
“The CDC does not live in the walls or the structure,” Weah declared. “The CDC lives in our hearts and minds. You can tear down the bricks and break the walls, but we will remain standing — firm in our love and loyalty to the ideals of this great institution. The party is supreme; the CDC is supreme.”
Weah also called on partisans to remain steadfast and focused, describing the party’s mission as a national effort to “rescue Liberia from charlatans and mountebanks.”
“Let us continue to work hard because the Liberian people are counting on us to free them from the hands of deceivers,” he urged.
Saturday’s groundbreaking event, which attracted thousands of supporters and sympathizers, has been described by observers as a major morale boost for the CDC. The ceremony comes just two months after the party’s headquarters was demolished, an incident that many within the party considered politically motivated.
The event has reignited enthusiasm among CDC loyalists and signaled what many see as the party’s strong preparation for a political comeback ahead of the 2029 elections.
