The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) has taken swift action against one of its senior officials following the circulation of a disturbing video showing an alleged assault on an elderly citizen.
Mr. Massayan Sorsor, a Director at the MFDP, has been placed on compulsory administrative leave pending an investigation by the Office of the Ombudsman. The decision came after senior ministry officials were made aware of the video late Saturday night, March 22, prompting an immediate internal review.
In an official statement, the MFDP confirmed that its Human Resources and Legal Units assessed the incident and determined that Mr. Sorsor’s alleged actions violated Section 4.3 of the Code of Conduct for public officials, which mandates that government employees “exhibit good conduct at all times, both at work and off-duty.”
“The Ministry takes this matter very seriously,” the statement read. “After careful consideration, senior management has endorsed the recommendation to forward this case to the Office of the Ombudsman for full investigation and appropriate action.”
The Ombudsman, an independent body tasked with investigating misconduct by public officials, will now determine whether further sanctions or penalties are warranted.
The MFDP reiterated its commitment to upholding high ethical standards among its staff, urging all civil servants to act responsibly and avoid behavior that could tarnish the ministry’s reputation.
Public reaction has been mixed, with some citizens commending the ministry’s quick response, while others demand stronger accountability measures for public officials accused of misconduct.
As the investigation proceeds, many will be watching closely to see how the case unfolds and what consequences, if any, will follow. For now, Mr. Sorsor remains on leave, awaiting the Ombudsman’s findings.
