A recent report from Naymote Partners for Democratic Development has highlighted the progress made by President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, Sr.’s administration during the first eight months of 2024. According to the President Meter Performance Report, only 3% of the 119 promises tracked have been fully completed, while 59% are still ongoing, and a notable portion remains either unstarted or not rated due to insufficient data.
The report underscores some strides made by the Unity Party government, but also raises concerns about the slow pace of critical reforms. Of the 119 promises, 70 are in progress, 17 have not yet begun, and 29 were not rated. The sluggish implementation of essential reforms in sectors such as health, education, rule of law, and corruption has sparked concerns about the country’s economic growth and job creation efforts.
Key Findings:
• Macroeconomic Stability and Infrastructure: Of 67 promises under this pillar, 42 are in progress, with notable investments in road construction and financial management.
• Health and WASH: The government has made progress in healthcare and sanitation, with 9 out of 12 promises underway.
• Education: The administration remains committed to improving both access and quality in the education sector, with 3 ongoing reforms.
• Rule of Law, Commerce, and Culture: Limited progress has been made in these areas, with only 1 of 9 promises tracked showing any action, while the rest lacked sufficient data for assessment.
Despite some headway in infrastructure and governance, the report stresses the importance of faster implementation of reforms needed to enhance service delivery, ensure economic stability, and tackle critical issues like corruption and public sector management. Without these reforms, the report warns, Liberia’s progress in achieving sustainable growth and improved living standards will remain fragile.
