Jahmale Med Solutions, a well-known medical and diagnostic facility in Paynesville, is currently facing significant legal challenges after being found in violation of Liberia’s medical laws. An unannounced inspection by the Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC) on September 4, 2024, uncovered that several employees in Jahmale’s Imaging Department were working without the necessary licenses.
According to the LMDC, nine individuals—four from Ghana and five Liberians—were practicing illegally at the facility. The unlicensed professionals include radiographers and diagnostic medical sonographers, all of whom had not been approved by the LMDC to work in Liberia. This discovery raised alarms about the facility’s hiring practices, particularly regarding the employment of foreign medical professionals without proper authorization.
The LMDC’s inspection team, led by Dr. Benetta Collins-Andrews, Chairperson of the Council, found that Jahmale Med Solutions hired these unlicensed individuals, a direct violation of Liberia’s medical regulations. Dr. Andrews stressed that this is not only a legal issue but a serious threat to public health, as unqualified professionals pose a significant risk to patient safety.
“Jahmale Med Solutions will be held accountable for this breach of law,” Dr. Andrews said. “Both the facility and the unlicensed practitioners will face sanctions, which could include heavy fines and legal prosecution.”
In addition to addressing this specific case, Dr. Andrews highlighted broader issues within the LMDC. She mentioned the Council’s struggle to properly enforce regulations due to limited resources, including the lack of functional vehicles needed to conduct routine inspections nationwide.
“If violations like this are happening in a major facility in Monrovia, imagine what could be occurring in remote areas where medical facilities are less regulated,” Dr. Andrews warned.
The LMDC is calling for increased government funding and international support to strengthen its regulatory capabilities, ensuring that medical practices across Liberia comply with national health standards. An investigation into Jahmale Med Solutions is ongoing, and the LMDC remains committed to upholding the integrity of medical services in the country.
