MONROVIA, Liberia – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has honored renowned Ghanaian Pan-African travel content creator Berthold Kobina Ackon, popularly known as Wodemaya, for using his global digital platforms to promote Liberia during the country’s 179th Independence Day celebrations.
The recognition was presented Thursday during a breakfast meeting at the President’s Rehab Residence in Paynesville, where Wodemaya received a Special Presidential Pin in appreciation of his efforts to showcase Liberia’s tourism, culture, history, and hospitality to millions of viewers across Africa and beyond.
The meeting brought together President Boakai, Liberia National Tourism Authority (LNTA) Director General Princess Eva Cooper, Deputy Director General for Marketing and Promotions Jani Jallah Kollie, Wodemaya, and The Gathering Group Chief Executive Officer Jenkins S. Nyuma, who was also recognized for his role in promoting the country during the Independence celebrations.
The discussions focused on strengthening Liberia’s tourism, cultural, and investment profile through strategic partnerships and digital storytelling.
President Boakai praised Wodemaya for traveling across Liberia and highlighting the country’s attractions, untold stories, and investment potential to an international audience. He said the content creator’s work is helping reshape perceptions of Liberia and introduce the country to viewers who may know little about its history and tourism opportunities.
Accepting the recognition, Wodemaya thanked President Boakai and described Liberia as a nation rich in history, natural beauty, and welcoming people.
He said his visit allowed him to present a different narrative about Liberia by highlighting its resilience, breathtaking landscapes, cultural heritage, and opportunities for tourism and investment.
Wodemaya, one of Africa’s most influential travel creators, has spent recent weeks documenting his experiences across Liberia, producing videos aimed at encouraging more Africans and international visitors to explore the country while challenging long-held stereotypes about the nation.
