MONROVIA, Liberia – Liberia’s Ministry of Justice has dismissed allegations linking Inspector General of Police Gregory Coleman to claims that money was received or authorized to influence the release of suspects in the country’s ongoing narcotics investigation.
In an update issued on the matter, the Ministry said its internal investigation found no evidence connecting Inspector General Coleman to the alleged handling of funds.
According to the Ministry, the investigation established that a Liberia National Police (LNP) officer received and retained the money without informing his superiors or the Joint National Security Investigative Task Force, which is leading the probe.
As a result, the officer has been removed from the task force, relieved of his official duties, and is now facing both disciplinary action and criminal proceedings.
The Ministry reaffirmed that the Inspector General played no role in receiving or approving the alleged payment and emphasized that the investigation uncovered no evidence implicating him.
Authorities also called on the public to refrain from spreading unverified claims, stressing that the narcotics investigation remains active and that official findings should be allowed to guide public discussion.
