Monrovia, Liberia — The Civil Service Agency (CSA) has taken a bold step aimed at reshaping and strengthening its communication structure with the appointment of veteran broadcast journalist Varflay Kamara as its new Director of Communications and Public Relations.

This latest appointment places Kamara at the center of the Agency’s public engagement machinery, following his earlier role in 2026 as Senior Communications Consultant within the same institution.

For many who have followed his journey through Liberia’s media landscape, this development is seen as a continuation of a career defined by visibility, credibility, and consistency in public service broadcasting.

Before joining the CSA, Kamara spent over a decade at the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS), where he rose through the ranks and held several influential positions including Director of News, Director of Public Affairs, Executive Mansion Reporter, Legislative Reporter, and Senior Newscaster/Reporter.

At LBS, he became one of the recognizable voices and faces of public broadcasting, especially through his work in news and political reporting. As lead talk-show presenter at ELBC, he played a key role in shaping national conversations, moderating discussions on governance, accountability, and development while engaging high-profile guests from Liberia and beyond.

His journalism career was not only built on visibility but also on professional depth. Kamara is widely known for his focus on governance reporting, diplomacy, political affairs, and development communication, areas that placed him at the intersection of media and national discourse.

Over the years, he has also expanded his professional capacity through media and diplomatic training programs in Ghana, Nigeria, China, and the United States, strengthening his understanding of strategic communication and global media systems.

Within the communications space, Kamara’s skill set spans strategic communication, news writing and editing, crisis communication, media advocacy, research, multimedia production, organizational branding, and stakeholder engagement. He is also noted for maintaining strong working relationships with both local and international media institutions.

His career has been decorated with several recognitions, including the 2025/2026 National Broadcast Journalist of the Year (Liberia Broadcasters Association), Employee of the Year awards for the LBS News Department in 2023/2024 and 2021/2022, as well as Executive Mansion Reporter of the Year (2019/2020) awarded by the Press Union of Liberia.

The CSA described the appointment as part of its broader strategy to build a more responsive and effective communications division capable of enhancing public engagement and strengthening institutional transparency.

With this new role, attention now turns to how Kamara will reshape the Agency’s communication direction at a time when public institutions are under increasing pressure to communicate clearly, consistently, and credibly.

For the CSA, this is more than just an appointment, it is a calculated move to strengthen how the institution speaks to the public.
