Monrovia, Liberia – June 22, 2026
President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has suspended Mr. Peter Malcolm King from his position as a Member of the Board of Directors of the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL), pending the outcome of an ongoing Joint National Security investigation linked to the seizure of approximately 237.6 kilograms of cocaine at Roberts International Airport (RIA).
According to a statement from the Executive Mansion on Monday, the decision follows a briefing from the Ministry of Justice and the Joint Investigative Task Force. The briefing reportedly identified entities associated with Mr. King among those requiring further scrutiny as part of the widening narcotics investigation.
The Presidency emphasized that the suspension is strictly an administrative action intended to safeguard the integrity of the investigation, maintain public confidence in state institutions, and ensure that the process proceeds without interference or the appearance of undue influence.
The Executive Mansion further clarified that the suspension does not constitute a determination of guilt, nor should it be interpreted as prejudging the outcome of the ongoing investigation. Authorities stressed that due process will be fully respected as investigators continue their work.
President Boakai reiterated his administration’s commitment to combating illicit drug trafficking and strengthening governance through accountability, transparency, and the rule of law. He also urged the public to remain calm, avoid speculation, and allow investigators to carry out their duties without disruption.
The government assured both citizens and international partners that all matters related to the investigation will be handled thoroughly, independently, and in accordance with Liberian law.
The statement was signed by Atty. Kula B.N. Fofana, Presidential Press Secretary.
