Residents of Yangbalahun Town in Wanhassa District, Lofa County, have been left stunned following a disturbing incident in which a young man is accused of killing his own father on their family cocoa farm.
The deceased, identified as Joseph K. Ndorbor, was a government school teacher known within the community. Reports say he left for the family cocoa farm early Friday morning alongside his son, John K. Ndorbor, to carry out clearing work on the land.
Concern reportedly began to grow later that same day after John returned to town alone without his father. Community members immediately questioned him about Joseph’s whereabouts, prompting an explanation that quickly raised alarm among residents.
According to local accounts, John allegedly told residents that while they were working on the farm, his father became aggressive, threatened to kill him, and chased him with a cutlass. He claimed he managed to escape by running away and later believed his father accidentally injured himself after falling during the confrontation.
A local chief, recounting the suspect’s statement, said John allegedly explained that he returned to town to report what happened and first informed his sister about the incident.
Following the report, authorities were quickly notified and police launched an investigation into the matter.
During preliminary findings, investigators reportedly observed injuries on Joseph’s neck and chin that allegedly appeared inconsistent with the explanation provided by the suspect, raising further suspicion surrounding the circumstances of the teacher’s death.
As the investigation continued, several family members later claimed on social media that John K. Ndorbor confessed while in police custody to killing his father.
The shocking incident has sparked sadness and disbelief across the community, with many residents struggling to understand how such a tragic situation unfolded between a father and son.
Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
