Rumors are circulating that key members of the House of Representatives are holding clandestine meetings aimed at removing Speaker J. Fonati Koffa from his position. At the center of this political storm is the first-ever audit of the House of Representatives, initiated by Speaker Koffa himself, which has reportedly uncovered shocking payroll irregularities.

Insiders within the Capitol have revealed that the audit uncovered the presence of “ghost names” on the payroll—individuals who do not actually work for the House but still collect salaries. The suspicion is that some lawmakers have orchestrated this scheme, pocketing the salaries of these phantom employees for their own benefit.

The situation took an even more troubling turn when it was alleged that certain Unity Party representatives, along with others, recently acquired $600,000 from the Ministry of Transport’s budget. This money, which was intended for other purposes, is now believed to be funding the campaign to unseat Speaker Koffa. These revelations come at a time when many civil servants across Liberia are still waiting to receive their salaries, adding to the public outcry.

Speaker Koffa, known for his commitment to fiscal responsibility and transparency, has drawn sharp criticism from some of his colleagues since the audit began, but he has also garnered praise from those demanding accountability in government. His efforts to clean up the system have seemingly put him at odds with those who may have benefitted from the misuse of public funds.

As the alleged meetings continue behind closed doors, tensions in the House are rising, and more information is expected to come to light soon. With calls for transparency growing louder, all eyes are on the unfolding drama at the Capitol.
