Sekou Hussein Dukuly, Managing Director of the National Port Authority (NPA), has made a significant leap forward in modernizing Liberia’s port infrastructure. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between the NPA and China Railway Beijing Engineering Group (CRBG), marking the beginning of a transformative project aimed at developing and designing 21st-century master plans for all Liberian ports.
This milestone agreement focuses on the expansion and modernization of two of Liberia’s most vital ports—the Freeport of Monrovia and the Port of Buchanan. Both facilities are poised to see significant upgrades that will enhance their capacity to handle increased trade volumes, improve efficiency, and position Liberia as a key player in regional and global commerce.
The MOU signing was held in the presence of His Excellency President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, Sr., along with Minister Sylvester Grisby and other members of Liberia’s delegation. Honorable Saar Jonny, Senior Economic Advisor to the President, and Honorable Bedell Sandi, board member of the NPA, were also present to underscore the importance of this partnership for Liberia’s economic growth.
With this MOU in place, CRBG’s technical team is set to make its second visit to Liberia within the next 30 days, marking the official start of the project’s next phase. The technical expertise of CRBG, combined with the NPA’s leadership under Dukuly, promises to deliver world-class infrastructure capable of driving Liberia’s economic transformation.
