More than 100 prisoners, both convicted and awaiting trial, have broken out of Kakata Central Prison in Margibi County. According to reports obtained by FrontPage Africa, the breakout occurred on Sunday evening, as prisoners overwhelmed the guards, leaving several injured in the process.
Local resident Archie Gono, who lives near the prison, described the scene as complete chaos. “We saw a huge group of men running through the Carter High area,” Gono said. He added that although community members tried to intervene, they were outnumbered and unable to stop the escaping prisoners.
Despite media inquiries, prison officials have remained silent, with no official statement issued about the jailbreak or the condition of the injured guards.
As the situation unfolds, local authorities have ramped up efforts to recapture the escapees, leaving the community on edge. Security forces are actively working to restore order and prevent further threats to public safety.
