MONROVIA – The Solidarity and Trust for a New Day (STAND), along with several progressive groups, has formally notified the Ministry of Justice of its planned nationwide peaceful protest scheduled for July 17 in Monrovia.

According to the coalition, the demonstration is intended to demand accountability and transparency in the reported US$19 million cocaine trafficking case. Organizers are also calling on the government to publicly identify those responsible for the alleged drug trafficking operation.

In a letter addressed to Justice Minister Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh, STAND urged the government to respect and protect citizens’ constitutional right to peaceful assembly while ensuring the safety and security of all participants throughout the protest.

The organizers said the demonstration is expected to attract a broad cross-section of Liberian society, including civil society organizations, students, market women, transport workers, and other concerned citizens from across the country.

According to the notice, the march will begin at 10:00 a.m. in Monrovia and conclude at the Executive Mansion, where protesters intend to present their concerns and demands to the government.

The planned protest comes amid growing public attention surrounding the reported US$19 million cocaine trafficking case, with citizens and advocacy groups continuing to call for greater transparency and accountability in the government’s handling of the investigation.
