The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Transport, has officially unveiled a new generation of license plates for vehicles, motorcycles, and tricycles operating across the country.
The newly introduced plates come with enhanced security features designed to prevent forgery and misuse, along with a clear classification system to distinguish different categories of vehicles and motorcycles on Liberian roads. According to the Ministry, the plates take effect immediately, although vehicles with valid, unexpired plates will continue to use them until their expiration dates. Each plate is also color-coded to allow for quicker identification and easier verification by authorities.
Speaking at the launch on Monday, Deputy Minister for Land Transport, Rudolph G. Natt, Jr., explained that the rollout is in line with the Ministry’s policy of replacing license plates every five years. He noted that the upgrade is expected to strengthen law enforcement operations, enhance public safety, improve revenue collection, and promote greater transparency and accountability within the transport sector.
Transport Minister Sirleaf Ralph Tyler described the initiative as a key component of the Government’s broader agenda to modernize and revitalize the transport system. He added that the new plates will not only improve regulation and monitoring but will also make a meaningful contribution to national revenue.
Representatives from partner government institutions, private sector organizations, and other transport stakeholders welcomed the initiative, highlighting its potential to improve service delivery and reinforce transparency and efficiency across Liberia’s transport sector.
