The House of Representatives has officially received the Draft National Budget for Fiscal Year 2026/2027, amounting to US$1.2 billion, from the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP).
The formal submission took place on Friday, November 7, 2025, at the Capitol Building, where Finance and Development Planning Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan presented the document on behalf of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon.
According to Minister Ngafuan, the proposed fiscal plan was designed based on the government’s mid-year performance and aims to enhance domestic revenue mobilization while prioritizing critical national expenditure areas.
“It is my distinct honor to present the draft budget for FY2026. This proposal draws on our mid-year fiscal performance, focusing on strengthening revenue generation and addressing key expenditure areas vital to national development,” — Minister Augustine K. Ngafuan
Speaker Koon, in response, commended the MFDP for the timely submission and assured that the Legislature would promptly begin its review process through the Committee on Ways, Means, and Finance.
“We acknowledge receipt of this communication on behalf of the President and will forward it to plenary for referral to the relevant committee for comprehensive scrutiny. We commend the proposed amount of US$1.2 billion and trust that the revenue projections are achievable to prevent fiscal shortfalls,” — Speaker Richard N. Koon
He further announced that budget deliberations will begin early next week and called for the distribution of additional copies to lawmakers to ensure full participation in the review process.
The FY2026 Draft Budget presentation marks the beginning of the Legislature’s constitutional duty to examine and approve the government’s spending plan for the upcoming fiscal year.
