Two young men accused of killing a motorcyclist in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, are now turning against each other, each insisting the other carried out the gruesome act.
The suspects, 20-year-old Matthew Whea and 23-year-old Prince Sumo, were arrested in connection with the death of Reuben Samuels, also 20. Both admit they were with Reuben the night he was killed but refuse to take responsibility for the stabbing.
Speaking to reporters, Whea confessed they had come to Buchanan with a plan to steal a motorbike. According to him, the pair armed themselves with knives and pepper water. He insisted that Sumo was the one who stabbed Reuben after they reached the God Bless You Hill community.
But Sumo has fired back, denying Whea’s account. He accused Whea of lying and claimed it was Whea who used the knife. Sumo also admitted they had consumed alcohol beforehand to “build courage” for the crime.
Police investigations revealed that the suspects initially planned to travel to Rivercess but were stranded in Buchanan due to transport issues. They reportedly spent a night at a local police station before carrying out their plan.
Both men have been forwarded to the Buchanan Magisterial Court as the case remains under investigation.
