Monrovia – The Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) has disclosed that preliminary findings suggest an electrical shock may have triggered the fire that broke out at the 9th Street residence of former President George Manneh Weah early Wednesday morning.
According to LNFS, the blaze originated in Weah’s bedroom on the first floor, destroying his bed, dresser, and window before it was brought under control. “The current was fluctuating at the time of combating the fire, leading the team to believe that the cause of the fire was as a result of electrical shock,” explained Major George S. Davis, commander of the second shift.
The incident occurred around 12:48 a.m. and was contained within 30 minutes. Fire crews departed the scene at 2:03 a.m., with no injuries reported.
However, investigators say their efforts to carry out a full probe were hindered when they returned later in the morning and were denied access to the compound. LNFS noted that it was told investigators would be contacted when needed, but as of their latest statement, no follow-up communication had been received.
