The General Auditing Commission (GAC) has uncovered serious financial mismanagement at the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) following a compliance audit. The audit revealed unauthorized payments involving millions of Liberian and U.S. dollars, linked to the Liberia Digital Transformation Project (LDTP).
According to the GAC report, the LTA authorized payments of L$262,844,500 and US$450,000 to two companies, TAMMA Corporation and 231 Data Incorporated. However, the payments were made without basic accountability measures, such as signed contracts, proper project documentation, or regular progress reports. These gaps raise serious questions about the transparency and oversight of the funds intended for the project.
The findings have sparked concerns about the LTA’s financial management and the overall integrity of the Liberia Digital Transformation Project, as the absence of crucial documentation leaves the project’s progress and use of funds in doubt.
This revelation underscores the need for stricter controls and accountability in the handling of public funds, especially for projects of national importance like the LDTP.
