HNK Gorica has become the new home of Liberian international footballer Sylvanus Nimely as he was given the number 45 jersey in their first team squad.

Nimely was officially signed and Unveiled on yesterday February 4th 2021

In a conversation with him he disclosed few things that made him to o or HNK GORICA today.

“I have wanted to come here for many years!

The day after the defeat in Varaždin (1-2), the team did regeneration training, and during that time, 22-year-old Liberian striker Sylvanus Nimely signed his contract with HNK Gorica in the club premises.

The diverse offensive player, a member of his country’s national team, whose president is the legendary George Weah, has signed until the summer of 2023.

I am very glad to be here, because it is something I have wanted literally for years! Gorica has been wanting me, trying to bring me, for the last two and a half years. Both the club and I fought for this for a long time and it finally happened. I am grateful to God, but also to my family, my agent and everyone who made it possible for me to become a Gorica player. I am terribly excited and I can\’t wait to go – said Sylva, as his nickname is, in the first statement after the realization of a long-standing common wish.

I watched Gorica a lot during this period in which I was in contact with people from the club. In fact, I followed her so much that I started receiving notifications from Google when the Gorica game started … I may not know the players best by name, but I know them by numbers, by what they give on the field. I know very well what style Gorica plays, and I like it very much, I think the coach does a very good job, the team works hard and collects points. With a few new players, including me, I believe we will give more options to the coach and improve the team’s game – Nimely added.

The connection with Croatia is long-lasting, so he knows roughly where he comes from, while two associations with our country dominate among family and friends.

In my homeland, when they saw that I was coming to Croatia, people first thought: \’Oh, this is Luka Modrić\’s country!\’ And those who didn\’t react like that said, \’Oh, that\’s the country that has a wife president!\’ She\’s no longer president? Oh, I didn\’t know … I remember her from Russia, how she hugged the players, that was very nice to me – Sylvanus says with a smile.

Of course, it’s much more important to know what kind of country he’s coming to in football terms.

The Croatian league is a fairly high level of football. I know that because I have been following Gorica for a long time, but that is not just my opinion, everyone from football circles thinks so. Every year it gets better and better – Nimely is convinced, to whom one Croat is also among his favorite players:

• Along with Modrić, I am a big fan of Mario Mandžukić. I’m glad he’s back in Serie A, on the big stage, he’s a top player.

His football trip to Gorica, he says, was difficult and long, with one somewhat incredible detail …

I have been playing football since I know for myself, literally since I started walking, and as a child in Liberia I played for the Monrovia Club Breweries, and I made my national team debut at the age of 15! We played against Angola, I even assisted on a goal, but we lost the game – recalls Nimely, who is still a member of the national team today.

Shortly afterwards, at the age of 16, I went to the Czech Republic, my brother took me there for school, and I continued to play football in the Czech Republic. I played for the lower league MFK Karvin, and it will soon be four years since I left for Spartak Moscow. I played for another team there, in another Russian league, life was very nice, I made a lot of friends, but now I am looking forward to a new challenge – Sylva points out.

It can be used in all offensive positions, but …

My favorite position is \’nine\’, that\’s what I played most often, but in the national team I play on the wing. I used to play it in the club, I can do both left and right, it\’s not a problem, but my favorite is to be a striker. I also wanted to wear a nine on the jersey, but as she is busy, I decided on this combination. Four plus five is nine … Something like Ivan Zamorano, ha, ha – says Nimely.

For a start, they will pass the tests, the professional staff will assess how ready it is already at this moment, and it will depend on whether it will compete for the match against Slaven Belupo on Monday. If he asked Sylvanus, he would start right away.

After following Gorica for the last two and a half years, I can only say that I am really looking forward to working with all these people in the club. It seems that this is a very good project, in which every young player would like to participate, develop and progress. I hope and believe that we will achieve all our goals.”
