The first rescue mission by the UK government carrying Afghan evacuees has landed safely in the UK after escaping the Taliban even as thousands remain trapped in Kabul and fearing for their lives. The Royal Airforce plane, which also carried stranded Brits, touched down in Brize Norton in Oxfordshire early Wednesday morning . At least seven persons have been injured at the Sethi Ferro Fabrik Incorporated modern steel manufacturing company in Gardnerville, outside Monrovia following an explosion at the facility. The facility, which is being owned by the Sethi Brothers in Liberia, was dedicated as the first modern steel company by President George Manneh Weah on Tuesday, July 23, 2019. The explosion at the facility occurred during the early morning hours of Wednesday, August 18. The victims include four Liberians and three expatriates. Former Afghan president Ashraf Ghani has finally broken his silence after leaving his country to escape the Taliban militants. The Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MOU with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) to adopt best practices and strategies in the broadcasting industry. Social media giants, Facebook have reportedly blocked WhatsApp accounts linked to the Taliban after the Islamic group forcefully seized power in Afghanistan and sought to use the messaging service to help it govern. \”The Taliban is sanctioned as a terrorist organization under US law and we have banned them from our services under our Dangerous Organization policies,\” a Facebook spokesperson told AFP. A gay couple were beaten with bottles and left unconscious after a horrifying homophobic attack in Birmingham\’s Gay Village. Rob and his husband Patrick had been celebrating a friend\’s birthday when they were targeted by a gang of homophobic men travelling in a black SUV in the early hours of Saturday August 14. There has been chaos at Kabul airport today, August 18, as people try to flee from the capital that has fallen to the Taliban. Women were filmed crying and begging US troops to let them flee on evacuation flight, saying: \”Help! Taliban are coming.\” Meanwhile, the Talibans have been filmed firing gunshots into the air at the crowded airport and are whipping people to control the crowds. The Taliban gunmen have reportedly now surrounded the airport, with those on ground saying they are deciding who can leave and who stays.
