Monrovia, Liberia – The Government of Liberia has taken a bold step toward modernizing rural infrastructure with the launch of the Yellow Machines Initiative, a nationwide effort to improve roads, enhance connectivity, and stimulate economic growth.

Speaking on behalf of the Special Presidential Committee on Yellow Machines, former Defense Minister Brownie Samukai confirmed that 168 earth-moving machines have been procured and are expected to arrive in Liberia between April 3 and May 3, 2026.

The machines will be deployed to construct and rehabilitate critical roads linking towns and villages, with Grand Kru County designated as the first project site. Officials say this rollout marks the beginning of a broader strategy to upgrade rural infrastructure and create new opportunities for local communities.

The initiative is designed not only to accelerate road development but also to generate employment and improve livelihoods in underserved areas. To manage and operate the machines, the government plans to recruit 127 skilled personnel, with applications opening on April 1 for candidates interested in positions within their home counties.

Samukai emphasized that the project will be executed transparently, under the supervision of county superintendents and the Presidential Committee, to ensure that the machines are used responsibly and for their intended purposes.

The Yellow Machines Initiative reflects a collaborative approach involving multiple government institutions, including the Ministry of Health, to ensure smooth implementation and maximize benefits for rural communities.

Officials say the project is expected to have a lasting impact on Liberia’s infrastructure landscape, bridging connectivity gaps and laying the foundation for sustained economic growth.
