The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has announced that scheduled maintenance on a key regional transmission network will temporarily affect electricity imports to Liberia, potentially causing outages across parts of Monrovia and nearby communities.

According to LEC, it received official notice from TRANSCO-CLSG that maintenance works will be conducted on its 225kV transmission lines from March 26 through March 28, 2026. The exercise will take place daily between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM, limiting the flow of imported electricity into the country during those hours.

Compounding the situation, Guinea’s national power utility, EDG, has reported technical challenges affecting its generation capacity. As a result, the volume of electricity supplied to Liberia from the regional grid will be further reduced until the issue is resolved.

LEC says the combined impact of the maintenance work and generation shortfall may lead to intermittent power supply or complete outages in several areas, particularly during the daytime maintenance window.

While acknowledging the inconvenience, the corporation emphasized that the disruptions are part of necessary upgrades aimed at strengthening the long-term reliability and stability of the regional electricity network.

In an effort to cushion the impact, LEC stated that it will rely on its thermal and hydroelectric generation systems to provide limited power supply during the period.

Customers are being urged to plan ahead and take necessary precautions as the maintenance activities continue.

LEC also reassured the public that it is working closely with its regional partners to minimize disruptions and restore full service as quickly as possible, while thanking customers for their patience amid ongoing efforts to improve electricity delivery nationwide.
