Authorities in neighboring Sierra Leone have reportedly arrested a senior officer of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) after he was allegedly found in possession of a large quantity of controlled drugs near the Liberia–Sierra Leone border.

Randy P. Z. Tuweh, Deputy Border Patrol Commander for Grand Cape Mount County, was arrested on Saturday, March 14, 2026, in the border town of Jendema by officers of the Sierra Leone Drug Enforcement Agency.

According to preliminary reports, officers allegedly discovered approximately 600 strips of Tapentadol Tramadol tablets in Tuweh’s possession during the operation. The drug, a controlled opioid commonly known as Tramadol, has frequently been linked to illicit trafficking networks operating across several West African borders.

The Liberia Immigration Service has confirmed circulating social media reports regarding the arrest of the immigration officer. In a telephone interview with Spoon Network, LIS officials disclosed that authorities in Sierra Leone had formally notified the agency about Tuweh’s arrest in Jendema for alleged possession of the drugs.

Officials say the case is now the subject of a joint investigation involving the Liberia Immigration Service and law enforcement authorities in Sierra Leone. The investigation is expected to determine whether the officer was involved in cross-border drug trafficking activities.

Meanwhile, the LIS has urged the public to remain patient and allow the investigation to run its full course as authorities work to establish the facts surrounding the incident.

The agency emphasized that the matter remains under active investigation and that further updates will be provided as more details emerge.
