Monrovia, Liberia – Authorities at the Executive Protection Service (EPS) have taken swift disciplinary action against two senior officers following a tragic road accident on the Nimba Highway near Ganta that left multiple casualties.

The agency confirmed that Agent Agrippa B. Chea, a member of the Vice President’s security team, has been placed on indefinite suspension and handed over to the Liberia National Police (LNP) for a comprehensive investigation. He is expected to face scrutiny over a potential vehicular homicide charge linked to the incident.

Also suspended indefinitely is Officer William Menwon, Commander of the Vice President’s detail, for violating internal command procedures. The EPS says Menwon improperly approved the use of the vehicle involved in the crash, breaching established operational protocols.

According to preliminary findings from a joint investigation involving EPS and traffic authorities in Ganta, the incident occurred while the EPS-marked vehicle, identified as “EPS-79,” was being operated outside any sanctioned convoy or official assignment.

Investigators report that Agent Chea was allegedly driving beyond his authorized duties, exceeding speed limits, and using the wrong lane at the time of the crash. These actions are believed to have led to a head-on collision with a privately owned vehicle.

The impact proved fatal, claiming the lives of two individuals, while several others sustained serious injuries and are receiving medical attention.

The EPS further clarified that no official movement involving the Vice President was underway when the incident occurred, noting that he was at his private residence at the time.

The agency emphasized its commitment to accountability and adherence to professional standards, stating that all personnel are expected to operate strictly within the bounds of their assigned duties. Investigations remain ongoing as authorities work to establish full responsibility for the fatal crash.
