The Ministry of National Defense has issued a strong public warning following repeated reports of individuals falsely impersonating members of the Armed Forces of Liberia to deceive, intimidate, and defraud civilians.
According to the Ministry, these impostors have been posing as soldiers both in person and through phone calls, text messages, and social media platforms. Their alleged activities include soliciting money, requesting personal or banking information, attempting to gain unauthorized access to restricted areas, and carrying out other forms of fraud under the false pretense of military authority.
The Ministry stressed that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward impersonation and any fraudulent acts carried out in the name of the military, noting that such actions severely undermine public trust in the Armed Forces.
Authorities emphasized that impersonating military personnel is a criminal offense under Liberian law, and anyone found culpable will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
The Ministry further clarified that legitimate military personnel will never request money, financial transfers, banking details, or sensitive personal information from civilians.
Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant and take the following steps:
Verify any suspicious claims by contacting official Ministry of National Defense communication channels, including its verified social media platforms or the Department of Public Affairs. Immediately report suspected cases of impersonation to local law enforcement authorities or the Department of Public Affairs via publicaffairs@mod.gov.lr or +231 770 306 327 / +231 886 684 560.
The Armed Forces of Liberia reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the nation while upholding the highest standards of integrity, discipline, and professionalism.
