Monrovia, Liberia – The Ministry of Justice has issued a directive demanding the immediate cessation of all activities linked to a group identifying itself as the National Fula Security of Liberia (NFSL), amid growing social media reports and public communications regarding its formation and recruitment.
In a formal statement, the Ministry emphasized that no authorization, permit, registration, or operational approval has ever been granted by the Government of Liberia for the establishment, operation, or recruitment of any entity under the name “National Fula Security of Liberia” or similar formations.
The Ministry reminded the public that, under Liberian law, the creation, organization, recruitment, or deployment of any security body, paramilitary structure, auxiliary force, or organized enforcement entity requires prior approval through the Ministry’s Division of Public Safety, including formal application, vetting, institutional assessment, security review, and compliance with tax and regulatory obligations. No such process has been undertaken by this group.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Justice ordered the immediate halt of all recruitment, organizational, operational, promotional, or mobilization activities connected to the NFSL. Any continuation of these activities will be considered a violation of Liberian law and will incur criminal and administrative sanctions.
The Ministry further underscored that the government will not recognize or tolerate the formation of unauthorized security structures, particularly those organized along ethnic, tribal, communal, or sectarian lines. National security, law enforcement, and public order are the constitutional responsibilities of legally established state institutions and cannot be delegated to private groups operating outside the law.
Relevant security and regulatory agencies have been instructed to investigate the matter immediately. Individuals found violating the law will face enforcement action in accordance with Liberian legislation.
The Ministry concluded by assuring the public of the government’s commitment to maintaining peace, security, and national unity, urging citizens to refrain from engaging with unauthorized security formations and to report any suspicious activities to the proper authorities.
