The management of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has issued a public warning to customers following reports that some individuals are demanding payment for electricity-related materials and services that are officially provided at no cost.
In a statement released Today, LEC clarified that utility poles, transformers, service wires, and all related customer service support for new connections or reconnections are provided free of charge within the corporation’s approved operational areas. Management emphasized that no customer is required to pay any LEC employee or representative for these materials or services.
The corporation cautioned the public against collecting or handing over money to anyone claiming to act on LEC’s behalf, describing such actions as fraudulent and unauthorized.
LEC further urged customers to immediately report any employee or individual who requests payment for electricity materials or customer service support. Reports should include relevant details such as the LEC vehicle board number (if applicable), the full names of the individuals involved, photos or videos where safely obtainable, as well as the date, time, and location of the incident.
All reports are to be submitted to the Legal Division at LEC Headquarters in Waterside, Monrovia. Customers may also report incidents by calling 0773 213 276 or via WhatsApp at +231 888 859 398.
LEC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and improved customer service, calling on the public to work with the corporation to eliminate fraud and ensure fair and equitable access to electricity services across the country.
The statement was signed by the Management of the Liberia Electricity Corporation.
