Nimba County — Inspector General of Police Gregory O. W. Coleman has clarified that Deputy Commissioner of Police Cecelia G. Clarke remains an officer of the Liberia National Police (LNP), despite widespread reports suggesting she has resigned from the force.

Speaking to journalists during a recent engagement in Nimba County, IG Coleman explained that while Clarke has expressed an intention to resign, she has not completed the formal procedures required for resignation under LNP regulations.

According to the Police Inspector General, the Liberia National Police operates under strict administrative rules and protocols consistent with its status as a paramilitary institution. He emphasized that resignation from the force is not an informal process.

The Liberia National Police is not a Boy Scout organization,” Coleman said. “It is a paramilitary institution. When you sign up, there are administrative instructions and regulations that must be followed.”

IG Coleman further disclosed that DCP Clarke has been reassigned from the Press and Public Affairs Department to serve as Chief of International Relations within the LNP. He praised her contributions to the police’s public communications, noting that she has played a significant role in strengthening the institution’s engagement with the public and the media.

He stressed that reassignment within the police structure does not amount to resignation and that until all established protocols are followed, Clarke remains a member of the force.

The clarification comes amid public debate following reports of Clarke’s resignation as police spokesperson, which sparked discussions about internal administration and leadership within the LNP.

As of now, the Liberia National Police has not indicated whether Clarke’s expressed intent to resign will be formally processed or whether further administrative actions will follow.
