Alternative National Congress (ANC) Political Leader Alexander B. Cummings has firmly dismissed long-running allegations suggesting that he is gay, describing the claims as false, malicious, and calculated to damage his political image.
Speaking during an interview on OK FM, Cummings said the accusations are not rooted in fact but are instead part of a deliberate strategy by political opponents to undermine his credibility and distract from substantive national issues.
According to him, the narrative being circulated is designed to shift public attention away from debates about governance, accountability, and development, and toward personal attacks that have no bearing on his leadership or policy agenda.
Cummings stressed that at no point in his life has he been involved in, or publicly associated himself with, activities linked to the LGBTQ+ community, adding that the allegations being repeated in public discourse are entirely untrue.
He urged his supporters and the broader Liberian public to remain focused on the country’s pressing challenges, including economic recovery, institutional reform, and good governance, rather than engaging with what he described as unfounded rumors meant to weaken political opponents.
The ANC leader further called on Liberians to critically assess leaders based on their ideas, performance, and vision for national development, instead of personal attacks that do not contribute to meaningful democratic debate.
Cummings’ response comes amid persistent speculation that has circulated for years, with some individuals allegedly using the claims as a tool to discredit him in the court of public opinion. Despite this, he maintained that such tactics will not deter his commitment to public service.
He concluded by reaffirming his focus on Liberia’s future, stating that his dedication to national development and democratic leadership remains unchanged, regardless of attempts to derail his political work through what he termed baseless accusations.
