MONROVIA — The assault case involving Kindness Wilson and complainant Jumel Cox has entered its final stage after the defense formally waived its right to present witnesses, clearing the way for closing arguments.
The matter is being heard at the Monrovia City Court, under the gavel of Stipendiary Magistrate L. Ben Barco. Wilson is facing charges of simple assault, menacing, and disorderly conduct stemming from a campus altercation that drew widespread public attention.
On Tuesday, defense counsel Atty. Jeremiah Samuel Dugbo I informed the court that his client would not call any witnesses or submit further evidence. He told the magistrate that the defense was exercising Wilson’s constitutional right to remain silent, effectively resting its case.
Following the announcement, the court granted the defense’s application and ruled that the matter will now proceed to final arguments, subject to assignment. Prosecutors, led by Cllr. Moriah Yeakula-Korkpor, are expected to present their closing submissions once a date is set.
The case has seen several twists in recent months. In October, portions of the prosecution’s case were dismissed over alleged delays, a decision that temporarily halted proceedings. That ruling was later challenged by state prosecutors, leading to the resumption of the trial and its progression toward conclusion.
With both sides now poised for closing arguments, the case has entered its closing phase, bringing the long-running legal battle closer to a final judgment by the court.
