The Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has announced the immediate expulsion of three senior members, citing prolonged acts of disloyalty and violations of the party’s constitution and bylaws.
Those expelled are Senator Zoe E. Pennue, Cllr. Kanio Bai Gbala, and Sinoe County District Two Representative Samson Weah. The decision was disclosed in a statement dated February 9, 2026, and signed by CDC National Chairman, Atty. Janga A. Kowo.
According to the party, the expulsions follow nearly 18 months of conduct considered harmful to the CDC’s interests and inconsistent with its constitutional provisions. The party referenced multiple sections of its constitution, specifically Sections 38, 39, 41(A), 42, 44, 45, 46, and 47, which govern member conduct, loyalty, and disciplinary measures.
Section 47 of the CDC Constitution outlines the circumstances under which party membership may cease, including voluntary withdrawal, constructive withdrawal through open declaration of allegiance to another political party, expulsion endorsed by the National Executive Committee, or death.
The CDC accused the expelled officials of using public platforms to disparage the party while openly aligning themselves with the ruling Unity Party-led government. The statement argues that such alignment contradicts the CDC’s political values and principles, particularly its stance on good governance.
“The CDC does not condone conduct that undermines the party’s integrity or mission,” the statement said, emphasizing that the three individuals are no longer recognized as members or representatives of the party in any capacity.
The party further warned the public against engaging with the expelled officials under the guise of CDC representation, stating that any such dealings would be undertaken at the individual’s own risk.
Describing the decision as both disciplinary and cautionary, the CDC said the expulsions serve as a message to other members who may consider actions contrary to party rules and loyalty expectations.
Reaffirming its political direction, the CDC said it remains committed to its people-centered ideology and is focused on reorganizing and strengthening its base ahead of the 2029 general elections, with the stated goal of returning to power and unseating the Unity Party government.
The statement was officially issued under the authority of Atty. Janga A. Kowo, National Chairman of the Congress for Democratic Change.
