MONROVIA, Liberia — Benita Urey, President of Shaita Angels FC and daughter of businessman and politician Benoni Urey, has gone public with explosive claims of sexual harassment and political bias within Liberian football.

In a candid statement that has reverberated across the football community, Urey said she endured sexual harassment while seeking sponsorship to support her club, describing the ordeal as “humiliating” and “deeply painful.” “I was sexually harassed just to sponsor my team,” she declared, breaking years of silence on the matter.

Allegations of Political Retaliation

Urey directly accused Mustapha Raji, President of the Liberia Football Association, of unfairly banning her from football activities. She claims the fallout began after she supported a rival candidate in the ongoing LFA leadership contest. Once an ally of Raji, Urey says she became a target after refusing “to be used as a toy,” suggesting the ban is politically motivated rather than based on legitimate disciplinary grounds.

Personal Investment Without Support

Urey revealed that she has personally injected over $200,000 into Shaita Angels FC to cover operational costs, player welfare, and competition fees. Despite this commitment, she claims her club has not received its rightful financial subvention from the LFA. She further alleged a pattern of double standards from Raji, who she says publicly criticized her while privately offering encouragement during prior controversies.

“Selfish and Dictatorial” Leadership

Describing the LFA’s leadership as “selfish” and “dictatorial,” Urey insisted her actions are guided by principle rather than politics. She announced plans to provide more details in an upcoming live broadcast, promising evidence that will expose what she describes as systemic issues within Liberian football governance.

As the LFA leadership contest heats up, Urey’s revelations threaten to intensify scrutiny of the association’s management and may influence the trajectory of Liberian football administration.
