The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MGCSP) has placed two underage girls under protective custody following their inappropriate exposure on social media by their father, citing violations of Liberia’s child protection laws.
The action follows a press release issued on January 8, 2026, in which the Ministry warned social media influencers, content creators, and parents against involving children in adult or explicit online content. According to the Ministry, a video widely circulated on social media featuring the two minors was reviewed and found to contravene the Children Law of Liberia (2011) as well as applicable international child protection standards.
The Ministry emphasized that minors do not have the legal capacity to give informed consent or to fully understand the long-term consequences of public digital exposure. After engaging the father and instructing him to remove the content, officials said he declined to comply with the directive.
As a result, the Ministry, working in collaboration with the Liberia National Police (LNP), intervened in what it described as the best interest of the children to ensure their safety and well-being. The two girls are currently under the protective care of the Ministry, while their father has been arrested and is undergoing investigation in accordance with the law.
Reaffirming its mandate, the MGCSP reiterated its commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and welfare of children across Liberia. The Ministry strongly cautioned parents, guardians, and content creators against the misuse or exploitation of minors on social media and other digital platforms.
