Police authorities have confirmed the arrest of the prime suspect in the killing of a six-month-old baby whose body was discovered after days of searching in Lower Margibi County.
The infant, identified as Beatrice Langar, was reported missing earlier last week. According to police reports and family accounts, the child was last seen with her father, Lester Langer, who had asked to hold the baby shortly before she disappeared. The child’s mother told authorities that Langer fled with the infant soon afterward and could not be reached.
Following the report, officers of the Liberia National Police, supported by community members, launched an intensive search across several areas of Lower Margibi County. The search ended in tragedy on the evening of January 24, 2026, when the baby’s lifeless body was discovered in an empty room in Barclay Farm, Lower Margibi.
Law enforcement officials disclosed that the body bore clear signs of severe abuse, including the removal of both eyes, a discovery that sent shockwaves through the community and sparked widespread public outrage.
Police say a full-scale investigation has been opened to establish the circumstances surrounding the child’s death and to determine any additional individuals who may be linked to the crime.
Meanwhile, authorities confirmed that officers from Margibi County, working in collaboration with security personnel in Nimba County, later located Lester Langer alive. He was arrested and is currently being held at the Kakata Police Headquarters, where he is undergoing questioning.
The Liberia National Police has assured the public that the case will be thoroughly investigated and that justice will be pursued. Citizens have also been urged to remain calm as investigators continue their work.
