Monrovia, Liberia — Mr. Daniel M. Daye has been formally escorted to the Monrovia Central Prison (South Beach) following the issuance and enforcement of a writ of arrest by the Monrovia City Court.

According to police and court documents, Daye was arrested in Gardnerville, Montserrado County, and now faces multiple criminal charges, including Disseminating Obscene Materials, Terroristic Threats, Criminal Coercion, Sexual Harassment, and Disorderly Conduct. The alleged offenses reportedly occurred between January 2021 and December 2024 and were carried out primarily through online platforms.

Charges and Arrest

The police charge sheet dated January 6, 2026, identifies Daye as a 23-year-old Liberian male, single, and currently unemployed. Investigators state that the offenses were committed through social media platforms, including Facebook and WhatsApp, where the defendant allegedly engaged several women in separate romantic relationships.

On January 7, 2026, the Monrovia City Court issued a writ of arrest ordering Daye’s immediate apprehension and appearance before the court to answer to the charges. The writ was executed, leading to his transfer to the Monrovia Central Prison pending further judicial proceedings.

Allegations by Multiple Victims

Police investigations detail allegations involving five female complainants, each describing a similar pattern of conduct. According to the charge sheet, the women allege that while they consented to private exchanges during online relationships, Daye recorded nude photos and videos without their knowledge or consent.

Investigators further allege that Daye later used the recorded materials to blackmail and threaten the victims, warning that he would release the content publicly or send it to family members, friends, schools, and other third parties if his demands were not met. In several instances, the alleged dissemination reportedly resulted in severe emotional distress, family conflict, reputational harm, and educational consequences for the victims.

One of the complainants was reportedly 17 years old at the time of the alleged offense, raising additional concerns within the investigation.

Defendant’s Statement

Police say Daye was informed of his constitutional rights and provided a written statement in the presence of legal counsel. In his statement, he acknowledged engaging in online relationships and exchanging intimate content but denied criminal intent, attributing some actions to personal disputes and misunderstandings following relationship breakdowns.

However, investigators concluded that while the complainants may have consented to private exchanges, they did not authorize recording, retention, or dissemination of their intimate content.

Investigation Findings and Legal Basis

Following a review of the evidence, police determined that the alleged conduct constituted a pattern of intimidation, harassment, and coercion, in violation of Liberia’s Revised Penal Law, including provisions covering terroristic threats, dissemination of obscene material, criminal coercion, harassment, and disorderly conduct.

The court documents state that the alleged acts were willful, intentional, and unlawful, warranting Daye’s arrest and continued detention pending trial.

Current Status

With the writ of arrest now enforced, Daniel M. Daye remains in custody at the Monrovia Central Prison as the case proceeds before a court of competent jurisdiction. Authorities say further legal actions will follow in accordance with due process.

The Liberia National Police has reiterated its commitment to pursuing cases involving sexual exploitation and online abuse, while encouraging victims of similar crimes to come forward and seek legal redress.
